The Causeway

The Causeway is a private addiction treatment centre only 1 hour from central London.

We employ traditional talking therapies (group and individual) and psycho education as tools that facilitate change.

This is combined with helping clients to experience and appreciate the value of present moment awareness and its role in achieving increased levels of health and well being.

Our approach to addiction treatment

Our approach includes three main components:

• Group and individual therapy looks to address the underlying factors that cause disease
• Psycho education looks at the nature of and factors related to the addictions
• Present moment awareness allows clients to experience a shift in their appreciation of health and wellbeing.

Unique location on a private island

The Causeway is located on a private Island with 350 acres of rugged outstanding natural beauty.

The Island is easily reached from London and within reach of three major airports. Road access is restricted to low tide only. Helicopter access takes only 20 minutes from central London.

The Causeway reflects the style and ideals of its most famous owner Frederick Charrington, who may have arguably established the first dependency treatment centre in the world in 1903.

At the Causeway retreat, we believe that every guest has the potential to achieve well- being and sobriety, our treatment approach emphasises personal choice and responsibility for our choices.

A therapeutic environment

Being on the tranquil Island allows our guests to slow down and contemplate without the distractions of a busy environment. This is a challenging stance as we are then faced with ourselves – an opportunity to reflect, rejuvenate and revitalise before returning to the challenges of everyday living. We hope to offer a fresh approach that incorporates a consistent and gentle treatment of well being and care.

At the Causeway we believe in returning to the fundamentals and to nourish what is important without compromising comfort and style. Returning to the fundamentals for us is attending to the simple pleasures of eating well, getting fresh air, tending the animals or herb garden and orchards as well as getting excellent treatments that enable us to achieve well being by clearing the clutter and attending to what is important.

A choice of well appointed accommodation

The Causeway provides accommodation at the Manor House, the village apartments and cottages. Each residence offers well appointed accommodation. The Manor House provides guests with a private discreet and luxurious tranquil haven that opens out onto a beautiful natural beach. The village offers one to three bedroomed apartments and cottages in a tranquil rural setting.

Rapid access to emergency services

The Causeway has priority access to emergency services such as air ambulance. A full paramedic crew can be in attendance on the Island in 7 minutes, and this applies equally to the other emergency services.
