Having a facelift to get rid of wrinkles might soon be a thing of the past - recent research suggests face creams containing vitamin A can significantly help to reduce wrinkles.
A study by Michigan University Medical School on 23 people, showed that vitamin A-based retinol anti-ageing products both improved skin appearance and increased levels of skin repair chemicals.
The Michigan team analysed tissue samples from the upper arm of elderly people - average age 87 - who used the product for 24 weeks.
The samples showed an increase level of two skin components, glycosaminoglycan and procollagen, both responsible for youthful looking skin.
This is not the first study of this type - Manchester University scientists also issued a favourable report on Boots 'No. 7' anti-ageing cream earlier this year as part of BBC documentary Horizon.
A spokesperson for the British Skin Foundation told the BBC that Tretinoin, helped renew skin by increasing cell production and increasing collagen levels, known to give skin its elasticity.
Boots experienced a huge demand for the 'miracle' anti-ageing cream, with stocks selling out within a matter of hours.
The cream was also being sold on online auction site eBay where it attracted bids of over £100.
