'Traffic light' system monitors lifestyleDate: 07/11/2007 11:30:17

Britons could soon have their lifestyles assessed under a 'traffic light' system in a bid to monitor the nation's obesity epidemic.
A National Health Service website set to be introduced next year will give people red, amber or green ratings depending on details of their lifestyle, including height, exercise and alcohol consumption.
The site currently offers people the chance to find out what the most common diseases are in their area, however by typing in details such as their alcohol consumption, whether they are a smoker and sexual activity they can now gauge a more tailored response.
The so-called "Life Check" site will be promoted in Leeds, Hull and Derby this month, while people who are given a red light rating will be offered advice or told to see their GP.
Health Minister Ben Bradshaw said: "The aim of NHS Life Check is to support people in making minor changes that will make a long term difference to their health.
"Traffic-light style guidance is one of a number of options that we are currently considering and we will be guided by the results of the trials."
