Organic skincare a hit with ethical demographic

Date: 03/10/2007 09:55:55

More and more consumers are concerned about the toxic content of skincare products, according to the Natural Skincare Company (NSC).

The organisation said that a growing body of consumers were combining environmental consciousness with a concern for the damage to their own skin threatened by artificial substances.

Amanda McGillivray, founder of the NSC, claimed that concern about the toxic content of products they were using on their skin went hand in hand with a newfound will to curb human environmental impact.

Ms McGillivray explained the surge in customers for organic and natural products: "It was because people were concerned about what chemicals were going into their bodies but now it has become very linked to ethical issues too."

She added, however, that many still remain and are likely to remain unconcerned about the effects of damaging toxic substances on their own bodies and the effects of human waste and energy usage on the planet.

"There will always be a section of society who will not be concerned with the possible health concerns regarding products like Botox and will only be concerned with a quick fix and the instant gratification of 'looking beautiful' straight away.

"Those people are often also not concerned about their environment and the effects for instance, of global warming."
