Most popular cosmetic procedures revealed

Date: 16/10/2007 12:16:28

Breast augmentation surgery has topped the list of most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK, latest research reveals.

A 'boob job' is now the most common plastic surgery procedure sought by Britons, accounting for 27 per cent of all surgery.

Tummy tucks and rhinoplasties come in at second and third place with 25 per cent and 17 per cent respectively.

The survey by Abbey found that the main reason people want to alter their appearance is to boost their self-confidence (51 per cent), while a further 32 per cent claim it is for medical purposes.

Meanwhile, two per cent went under the surgeon's knife after being persuaded by a friend and one per cent took the plunge to stop people teasing them about a particular part of their body.

Paul Morrish, head of Abbey Loans, said: "Whether striving for visible perfection or as part of a medical treatment, plastic surgery is getting more and more popular amongst Britons."

The survey found almost one million people are planning to borrow a massive £1.4 billion to pay to get the body of their dreams.
