Stress resulting from military conflict is to be fought off by a cash boost for veterans' charity Combat Stress.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has promised a 45 per cent funding increase to Combat Stress over the next two years.
Daily fees now paid to the charity to enable its treatment of war pensioners affected by stress will rise £80 to reach £260 a day under the new funding pledged by the government.
Veterans' minister Derek Twigg commented: "This increase represents a significant boost to the charities finances and is the latest improvement that the MoD has made to help veterans suffering from mental illness."
The increases will aid the struggle against post-combat stress at three specialist treatment centres, Tyrwhitt House and Audley Court in England, and Hollybush House in Scotland.
Centres for the treatment of military-related stress have reported an increase in demand for their services after the unremitting conditions of war-zones in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken their toll on British Army troops.
