Good winter skincare 'vital'Date: 20/12/2007 12:24:26

Too many people neglect to take adequate care of their skin during the cold winter months, the British Association of Dermatologists (Bad) has warned.
While many people realise that it is important to look after their skin against the sun during the summer with sun block, many people forget to protect their skin against harsh winter weather.
In winter, moisturisers help to keep the skin hydrated and act as a barrier against the elements, Nina Goad from Bad explained.
They also help to maintain the skin's natural humidity which can often be lost by central heating, leaving it looking dull and feeling dry.
"The wind and rain, combined with central heating, can leave our skin dry and chapped - using moisturisers and lip salves can help to reduce these effects," she said.
According to Bad, the average adult has two square metres of skin on their body which weighs around 3.2kg.
The human body is made up of around 300 million skin cells.
