Botox: UK's No. 1 aesthetic treatment

Date: 15/11/2007 10:56:18

Botox now tops the list of the most common aesthetic treatments carried out in the UK today, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps) has revealed.

The popularity of Botox as a "quick and efficient" boost to help the elasticity of ageing skin continues to grow in popularity, especially as the treatment becomes more socially acceptable, Baaps explained.

Indeed, the results of a recent survey by market research group Mintel reflect this, showing that more than 100,000 Botox injections are now given in Britain each year.

"It's now the most common aesthetic treatment done. It has overtaken all the operations and the fillers," Kevin Hancock, Baaps secretary said.

"Certainly it's a very effective treatment. No treatment is complication-free, but it's very, very unusual to have a problem with Botox injections.

"In that sense, it's a fairly quick and efficient treatment so clearly it has become very popular."

A study of 81 clinics carried out in 2006 found that 50 per cent of people reported actually "feeling" younger, rather than just looking younger after having had Botox treatment.
